New security measures coming to several TEAS forms
In our ongoing efforts to reduce fraudulent filings, we’ll be piloting new security measures beginning on May 15 for certain Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) forms that are used to abandon an application, cancel a registration, or withdraw the attorney of record.
How it will work
The system will determine whether you can file these forms without additional authorization, based on the information in your USPTO.gov account. If you need additional authorization to submit, you’ll see a prompt within the TEAS form to send a permission request to one of the contact email addresses on record. The recipient will have 48 hours to approve or deny your request.
Only customers who require additional authorization will be prompted. If you do not need additional authorization, you will not see the prompt.
How to prepare
-
Attorneys and support staff should use the sponsorship tool to ensure their sponsorship and association information is current, along with all client correspondence and courtesy email addresses.
-
Applicants and registrants without an attorney or representative should ensure the owner email and any courtesy email addresses in their applications or registrations are current.
-
All customers should make sure the primary email address in their USPTO.gov account is current and accessible.
