Meet Margie Hieter, Chief of the Secretary of State (SOS), Political Reform Division (PRD). Margie joined the PRD team in 2020 and since then has been immersed in all things related to the CARS Project.
When asked about the most important contributing factor to successfully completing the CARS Project, she said,
“It’s the team! I am just one member of a large, dedicated group of passionate individuals who want nothing more than to see this project finish on time and within budget. I feel thankful and blessed to have the opportunity to work with SOS staff, contract employees, and external stakeholders, all of whom have significant knowledge, experience, and the skills needed for this project. Hopefully my listening skills are sharp enough to hear the issues as they arise and lead me to offer sound guidance and direction.”

What are the research reporting goals for the CARS Project?
CARS will provide an expanded online research interface with flexible, in-depth analysis tools for SOS staff and external stakeholders alike. The new data model will enable easier data aggregation across elections, measures, campaigns, and lobbyists, giving a better picture of relationships and sources of activity. The public will be empowered with easy, intuitive searches for campaign and lobbying information.
